This Privacy Policy describes how QRScanr (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use our mobile application on Android. We designed the App so that scanning and organizing codes works on your device without creating an account.
Summary: Scanned codes and collections are stored locally on your phone. We do not operate a cloud service that receives your scan history. The App shows banner advertisements through Google AdMob, which may collect data under its own policies.
1. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to anyone who downloads or uses QRScanr from Google Play or other distribution channels we authorize. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
2. Information we process
2.1 Data you provide or generate in the App (stored on your device)
When you use QRScanr, the following may be stored locally in the App’s database on your device:
- Scanned content — the raw text or URL read from a QR code or barcode
- Scan metadata — time of scan, code type/format, and whether the scan came from the camera or gallery
- Collections — names and colors you assign to group scans
- Custom names — optional labels you give to individual items
We do not upload this scan library to our servers as part of the App’s normal operation. Uninstalling the App or clearing its storage typically removes this data from your device.
2.2 Camera and photos
- Camera — used only to scan codes in real time. Camera frames are processed for decoding; we do not describe storing video recordings of your camera session on our servers.
- Gallery / photos — if you choose to import an image, the App accesses only the image you select to decode a code from it.
2.3 Advertising data
The App displays banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect or receive information such as device identifiers, IP address, ad interaction data, and diagnostic data to show and measure ads, subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and your device settings (including ad personalization opt-out where available).
The App requests the AD_ID permission where applicable so advertising partners can use the advertising ID in line with Google Play policies.
2.4 What we do not collect
- No account registration, email, or password is required to use core features
- We do not sell your scan history
- We do not operate a social network or public profile tied to your scans

4. Legal bases (EEA / UK users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on:
- Contract / legitimate interest — to provide the App’s scanning and organization features you request
- Consent — where required for advertising or non-essential cookies/SDKs (you may be shown a consent message where legally required)
- Legitimate interest — to keep the App secure and improve stability
5. Sharing and disclosure
We may share information only in these situations:
- Google (AdMob) — for ad serving and measurement, as described above
- Service providers — if we later use tools (e.g. crash reporting) that process limited technical data on our behalf under contract
- Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, or security
- Business transfer — in connection with a merger or sale of assets, with notice where required by law
We do not share your locally stored scan library with other users or advertisers as content.
6. Retention
- On-device data — kept until you delete items, collections, clear App data, or uninstall the App
- Ad / SDK data — retained according to Google’s and our processors’ policies
7. Security
We use reasonable measures appropriate for a local-first mobile app. Data on your device is protected by your device’s operating system (screen lock, encryption where enabled). No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
8. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact us and we will assist with deletion where applicable.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information.
- Delete scan data — delete individual items in the App or uninstall the App
- Advertising choices — use device settings (“Opt out of Ads Personalization”) and Google ad settings
- Permissions — revoke camera or photo access in Android Settings (some features will stop working)

EEA/UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.
10. International transfers
Ad and analytics partners may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States, with safeguards where required by law (such as standard contractual clauses).
11. Device backup
If Android backup is enabled for the App, your device or Google may back up App data according to your system settings. That backup is controlled by your device/OS, not by our servers.
12. Third-party links and content
Scanned codes may contain links to third-party websites or apps. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Opening a link leaves the App and is at your own discretion.
13. Open-source licenses
The App includes open-source software. License information is available inside the App (Settings → Licenses) and may list additional third-party notices.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version at the same URL and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may be communicated in the App or on our website where appropriate.
